The Borderline Personality Disorder

This post was written by a student in Lynn Reid’s Writing for the Sciences class at the City College of New York. After researching a scientifically debatable topic and writing about it for an audience of academic peers, this assignment asks students to present a multi-modal argument of the same topic to a popular audience.

My name is Dina Rahman and I am a student of the City College of New York. My hybrid essay is on the borderline personality disorder. Borderline is a serious mental illness occurs in both ganders which characterized instability in moods, interpersonal relationships, self-image, and behavior. Most of the people can get confuse by the both bipolar and the Borderline Personality disorder because their symptoms are really similar, the borderline personality disorder is not well known for its own disorder and people tend to call BPD as bipolar disorder because their symptoms are similar.

I later discovered that females have more chances to have the borderline personality disorder because women are emotional creatures however that article didn’t provide the reason. Later, i discovered that when the therapist is giving treatment to the patient, the patient seems to become more close to the therapist and at a certain point start trusting their therapist. They start building an emotional level contact with their therapist and share their problems. It’s really inflexible for the patient if their therapist decides to move away at a certain point. Because then they will have to start building the same relationship with the new therapist. Then i looked at males and borderline and found that men can be really emotional and violent at the same time. Men with the borderline personality disorder are pointed out to be physically abusive towards their female partner. Personality disordered batterers in this study were significantly more violent toward their partners and inflicted more injuries than the non diagnosed, control group men. ASPD is the antisocial and borderline personality disorders. ASPD patient’s keeps their self isolated from the society just keep their self away from problems. I was wondering if is it having the borderline personality disorder make them violent or having violence lead them to the borderline personality disorder. This article was on men with the borderline personality disorder and here I learned most men with the BPD have the violent act. The borderline personality disorder is related to violent behavior related to both male and female. An individual with the borderline personality disorder always have some portion of violent behavior with them where there are some who have serious violent behavior toward their wife or significant other.

Your topic is certainly interesting – I had never heard of Borderline Personality Disorder before coming across your post. You did a really great job of explaining how difficult it is to treat this disorder in your paper. However, it may be helpful if your provide more of a description before elaborating on treatment. You have obviously spend much time researching this topic, but I think your ideas could be better presented if your essay were organized a bit differently. Maybe you can start with a description of BPD, move into potential treatments, then discuss how it is actually very difficult to resolve. Really great topic, though!
