Kenny Powers and K-Swiss

For this exchange, students from Stanford and the American University in Cairo posted and commented on each other’s analyses of political cartoons and advertisements.

Shock humor is used extensively in this ad. Nearly all of the humor is derived from the explicit and inappropriate statements Kenny makes. Kenny talks about pornography, prostitution, and violence without any hesitation. Most of the things he alludes to are fairly taboo in the United States. While this commercial is very offensive it is targeted at an audience that finds offensive material humorous. Kenny insults women and makes extremely chauvinistic statements that his character is known for. It is somewhat ironic because business meetings are traditionally formal, but Kenny makes the meeting incredibly informal.
