Egyptian Cartoons – Maxine Luckett

For this exchange, students from Stanford and the American University in Cairo posted and commented on each other’s analyses of political cartoons and advertisements.

This first cartoon I chose because it doesn’t take a lot of outside information to understand it. It is self-deprecating of US culture, touching on our growing obesity problem especially in the youth. By playing on our own stereotypes and showing that we can laugh at ourselves, hopefully our peers in Egypt will find this entertaining.

This next political cartoon I chose because I found it rather entertaining. It mocks FOX news’ uber-conservatism. by observing the Obama has met with all of these radical leaders with anti-american sentiment but not a fox news representative, the author jokingly paints them to be even worse than our national enemies in the eyes of the current administration.
